The boy is CONSTANTLY standing upright from a bear crawl position. With nothing to pull up on or from. And oftentimes carrying something in his hands, like this cloth diaper here. Or a car. Or a ball. Or a phone. Or he has something in his mouth while standing, like a piece of fruit (plastic, from Lakeshore learning, calm down), a block, a lego, or a cloth diaper.

I know, they’re 12 months and not walking. SO WHAT? Remember that Harper didn’t even roll over until she was 9 months old. We figure she’s going to do what she wants to do when she wants to do it. I can’t imagine where she got that attitude from.

We’re probably days from a first step from Mateo, but don’t mistake that statement for mommy guilt or enthusiasm. Quite frankly, given how busy we are, and that there’s TWO of them usually going in opposite directions, I might resort to binding their feet to give us another 3-6 months of getting used to the speed crawl stage.
While I’m airing out the laundry of OHMYGODYOURKIDSARESOBEHINDTHEYAREN’TGOINGTOGETINTOPRE-K!, I should mention, you know, for the purpose of being comprehensive, that they also don’t talk (in words we can understand) yet. Or read. And we won’t be buying the early reading material that’s all the rage. They both say mama with intention, and Harper does say “ooK” with a hard “K” sound, thank you. She’s super nosy observant so it’s no surprise that that’s her first non-parental word. And she loves to show you everything, point to it, say “ooK” with AUTHORITY and look back at you to describe that object – that brown ceiling fan or the pink flower or the purple shoes or the whatever it is. They both wave bye and shake their heads “no”. Thanks for that, grandma.
Even so, they’re doing great developmentally in terms of gross motor and fine motor skills. And growth! My, their growth! At Monday’s 1 year checkup, Mateo was 31 3/4″ (95th percentile) and 24lb12oz (75th percentile) and Harper was 29 3/4″ (70th percentile) and 21lb7oz (55th percentile). We figured Harper was stretching out because see her in the background of that photo above? When I bought that giraffe rocker on March 7, she could barely touch her tiptoes to the ground.

They are so cute!! I am not one to talk my daughter didn’t roll over forever either and she is not a twin. But she has made up for it in spades. Now she does everyting! Enjoy them while you can!!!!!!!!!! They grow up WAY too quick.

No hurry. Only one of mine walked before 12 months and that was the firstborn and G-ma was pushing him to do it while she watched him. The other 2 boys were 13 mos. and Missy was 16 mos. (she had the fattest legs and butt, very bottom heavy!) H&M are bright, happy babies who are so obviously loved.

I have 14 month old twin boys who still aren’t walking. Nor are they talking! And they will be 15 months next week! I totally feel your pain. I am tired of being asked about it and then getting ” the look” of surprise and disapproval.
Whatever. They will walk and talk when they are ready.
Childhood is a journey, not a race.
Your babies are gorgeous!

CUTE! You know, Ryan, he didn’t walk til after 12 months. I think it was 13 or 14 months. And even then he was a wobbly mess until 16 months or so. And as for talking, honestly, he spoke caveman up until about a year ago! hahaha
Hugs to H & M for me!

they will do things when ready. we have friends with a full-term baby that is almost 4 months and has done some things before the babies. It upsets me a little, but they will do things when they are ready and not before. I have a hard time remembering that they were 9 weeks early and really only 4 mths adjusted, but even if they weren’t they will do it when ready. They grow up fast enough as it is. They are beautiful children. Love the giraffe!

They’re going to have to walk and talk for the next 80 years, I say enjoy them while they can’t walk away from you/talk back to you ….I don’t know why people are so fixated on milestones. Your babies are engaged, expressive and animated….that speaks far louder than walking/talking at this point. My sister didn’t spend much time stimulating her daughter at all, and although she was an early walker (but a very late talker), she was and still is quite expressionless and flat….far more worrying.

Don’t worry ALL KIDS ARE DIFFERENT. I know it’s hard not to compare. My twins didn’t walk until they were 14 and 15 months. I really tried to prevent them from walking forever, now they are all over the place!!

Oh, trust me, I am in NO HURRY. AT ALL. Nor am I the least bit worried. It must be my genetically induced stubborness, but I actually enjoy the fact that we’re not meeting so many perfect parents’ expectations. I’ve always garnered some satisfaction in bucking the system. And our imperfection is so incredibly liberating!

I think that twins often follow a different schedule for the talking. at least. My daughters are a couple of weeks shy of a year and the only word that they use regularly is Dada (hey! what about mom?!). They seem to understand one another perfectly, though. My guess is that their language works for them and they’ll start using mine on their terms– just like everything else.
Adorable babes– it looks like your son is SO CLOSE to walking!

My girls are 7 months and my nanny is putting some serious pressure on them to crawl. My husband and I are wondering what the big rush is. We like that they stay where we put them! And from the looks of Mateo and Harper on the videos recently, I’d say they are just perfect. 🙂

My good friends son did not talk until well after he was two and now he is 4 and won’t stop and his vocab is HUGE! So don’t worry they are soaking it in all in and as CUTE as ever!

Puhlease! My boys did not walk until around 15 months old. I have a niece and nephew who were walking at 10 months, so you just never know. And, my boys are brilliant, so no worries! 😉 They are doing great!

Braden isn’t walking either and we are TOTALLY okay with that. It will happen on his own time and once he starts walking there is no stopping him:) I agree that it is no big deal- what is the rush:)
