Catching all the liquid projectiles that spew from a baby's mouth can be an epic undertaking. My weapon of choice: a ShamWow. Why? Because they are super absorbent and last a very long time. They absorb several times their weight and carry a 10 year warranty.

What great ideas. It's always nice to see what works well for others and also alternative uses for things such as the organizer things.

Thank you so much for this. I don't have my baby yet, but the idea of shopping for the right stuff is so daunting. Your opinion is heeded here. Thanks!

i love the shoe organizer idea!! im going to hit target tonight and see about getting one... seriously - brilliant! and the pail deodorizer. the funk that comes out of a diaper pail (especially when they start solids) its enough to knock a buzzard off a shitwagon. i kid you not.

and i have to second the sleep sack thingies - those were lifesavers those first few weeks. much easier for diaper changing at 2am.

I have three daughters (3.5, 2 and 9 weeks) An inexpensive and versatile "must-tuck-in-the-bag-or-pocket" for us has been a flour sack. Washable, great as bib, burp cloth, nursing cover, changing spread, blanket & sun cover. They come in fun colors too!

Excellent post! I love the idea of a must-haves-over-time page. We're trying to get pregnant now and find ourselves wondering if where we're at on the minimalist to overdoing it scale (not buying, but imagining buying). We wander the aisles at Toys-R-Us (more to baby-watch than anything) but find ourselves gawking at items we could not conceive of anyone wanting let alone needing, but since we've yet to shop for an actual, real-live baby, we might be way off. Oh, and I'm a first-time poster but frequent visitor to your blog - your family is just beautiful!
